Piston to Valve clearance I like doing with dial indicator and stock lifter that has been converted to solid roller with checker springs on the heads. Clay works also if you don’t want to buy or own the tools. I find it easier and more accurate than clay as you not need to scrape it off and measure thickness at smallest spot (can do both if wanted) as clay will give the radial clearance. But if using oversized flycutter you don’t really need check that clearance assuming you cut the piston corre

Pretty easy process - Flycutting 1. Make sure you bring piston to TDC (top dead center) 2. Tape off deck surface (6” wide tape is nice here) and remove some off the tape where the cutter will sit on the piston. This helps it not get as gummed up with tape and get a better depth reading for the zero. 3.
