With heavy hearts, we share that we have once again had to rescue a baby chimpanzee. This time from a village in Outamba Kilimi National Park. On New Year’s Day, our eco-guards spotted a tiny chimp in the hands of miners. When they were approached, the men ran - leaving the baby behind. We named him Tunde, meaning “born again” or “new beginning.” A name filled with hope, on a day that could have ended very differently. When Tunde arrived, he was suffering from a high fever and was clearly unwell

One of the greatest pleasures in sanctuary work is getting to see chimps becoming more comfortable being outdoors, climbing to new heights, and exploring the outer reaches of their habitats.
